The University of Nairobi held its Faculty and Campus Students Association (FCSA) annual elections. The elections were held virtually on Friday March 25th, 2022.

There were three teams competing for FCSA office in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences FOASS; Team Success, Team Okuz and Team Integrity.

Team Integrity took the lead with a total of 1361 votes followed closely by Team Okuz with 1179 votes. The incoming Chairperson representing FOASS in FCSA is Peter Nguka.

Team Integrity constitutes a Vice-Chair, Fridah Mongare, Secretary General, Edwin Washiali, Treasurer, Razina Salim, Sports representative, Patricia Wanja and International representative Elizabeth Nyajang Kuon.

In accordance to the amended UNSA Constitution, the 2/3 gender rule, inclusivity of Persons With Disabilities, people from different ethnic groups as well as International students must be adhered to. This was observed by Team Integrity as they ran for office.

In addition, all the students that ran for leadership positions were required to have received academic clearance from their Faculty Deans.

During the swearing in ceremony, the Independent Electoral Commission, IEC 2022 Chair, Prof. Collins Odote gave a summary of the whole electoral process. He remarked on the challenges that the commission faced and thanked the management and the student community for the support that they accorded the commission throughout the election timelines.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kiama congratulated the winners and emphasized on the importance of students representation. The management pledged to work with the student leaders.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Ogeng’o and the COO, Mr. Brian Ouma and the Dean of Students, Mr. Kinyua Johnson were in attendance and they offered their laudatory remarks to the incoming Faculty leadership.
