Today, November 8, 2021, would have been Prof. Okoth Okombo’s 71st birthday. Prof. Okombo was a great man; he was a leading academic on communication and leadership; a man who was articulate, with a great command of language, valorizing the aesthetic value of language. We remember Prof. Duncan Okoth Okombo, a distinguished linguist.
It was a beehive of activity as University of Nairobi staff and students celebrated Mental Health Day on November 3, 2021 at the Manu Chandaria Auditorium, UoN Towers, Main Campus.
Prof. Chris Wanjala had interests in African literature. She opined that the late academic gave critical perspectives on African Literature. “He had interests in Performance Arts as well”, she said.
In her concluding remarks, she noted that Prof. Wanjala was a giant on whose shoulders many stood and as they studied Literature.
The Department of Linguistics, Languages and Literature, the Italian Embassy and the Italian cultural institute collaborated on a conference dubbed "From the Dark Wood to Paradise: Dante Alighieri at the University of Nairobi."

Dean welcomes freshmen to FoA
The Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Ephraim Wahome welcomed 1,800 new students to the Faculty for the academic year 2021/2022. In his address to the freshmen, Prof. Wahome called on the students to focus on their studies even as they navigate through the ups and downs of campus life.
The Faculty of Arts has welcomed 1,800 first year students for the Academic Calendar 2021/2022. The first years reported on Monday, September 20, 2021.
The students will be taken through orientation the whole week. The orientation will be to a large extent Faculty-based. Thus, students will be exposed in detail to the facilities in the respective Faculty and in general to those of the entire University.
Soka University, Japan and the University of Nairobi through their long standing partnership have established a liaison office at UoN. The establishment of the office has been fully funded by Soka University.
