Overview
1.4 Goal and Objectives of the Programme
The objectives of the Language and Communication Programme are to:
- Equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for meeting the challenges encountered in language-based communication careers.
- Train transdisciplinary manpower for the management and supervisory roles in the various language-based communication careers.
- Train personnel capable of training other people in language-based tasks in both print and electronic media; and
- Empower individuals with the entrepreneurial expertise that can be used in setting-up business in technical communication and media for themselves and for other members of society.
1.5 Programme Learning Outcomes
At the successful completion of the Language and Communication Programme, the students are expected to be able to:
- Have skills that are applicable in the day-to-day operations of language-based communication careers and technical communication settings.
- Be competent to communicate in science and medical communication projects.
- Have competence and skills to enable them give leadership in language-based communication careers and project implementation and reporting.
- Gainfully set-up and run language-based firms in areas such as publishing, editing speech-writing, public speaking couching consultancies, and project reporting

The common regulations for admission requirements for B.A. in the University of Nairobi shall apply.
2. Regulations for Credit Transfer and Exemptions
1. The common regulations for credit transfer and exemptions of the University of Nairobi shall apply,
2. A student shall be allowed to seek credit transfer or exemptions for up to one-third of the total taught course units provided that they are equivalent to those offered by the University of Nairobi and were taken at equivalent level of study from an institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate,
3. A student seeking credit transfer or exemptions shall send a formal application to the Dean, Faculty of Arts through the Chairperson of Department, justifying the request, and attaching relevant supporting documents.
4. Grades for transferred course units shall be entered in the candidate's transcript while the exempted course units shall be entered as 'exempt',
5. Credit transfers in case of exchange students shall be applicable only to specific Memoranda of Understanding or Agreements signed in advance between the University of Nairobi and the collaborating universities/institutions for joint programmes.

Structure
Course Description of Units in the Programme
Course Structure and Duration
- The degree programme shall consist of course work, examination, and thesis.
- The programme shall be covered in a minimum of seven (7) and a maximum often (10) from the date of registration,
- Each candidate shall be required to successfully complete a minimum of forty-four (44) course units,
- Each course unit shall have a minimum of 45 contact hours and shall be covered within a semester of 15 weeks. e. Each student shall be required to take a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of seven (7) course units in one semester.

A candidate who fails to attend two thirds of the 45-hours lectures indicated in the schedule above shall not be allowed to sit the examination at the end of the unit.
